“I am the sum total of everything that went before me, of all I have been seen done, of everything done-to-me…I have been a swallower of lives; and to know me, just the one of me, you’ll have to swallow the lot as well.’ – Salman Rushdie, Midnight’s Children

What we eat and what we cook are never really completely original.

Food is always connected to history, influenced by previous generations, different countries & customs, friends & family. However much we try to reinvent the wheel, the best food, cooking and eating experiences derive from a world of inspiration — and all the better for it.

For me, food is not about originality; it’s about learning, teaching, sharing, and celebrating.

This blog is an attempt to “swallow the lives” of as many food experiences, people, places and stories as possible.
